January 


Security Council Renews Cross-Border Aid Operations into North-West Syria for Six Months

The Security Council unanimously decided today to extend the use of the Bab al-Hawa border crossing for the delivery of aid into north-west Syria until 10 July 2023, as members subsequently assessed the propriety of the six-month extension.



February


On Feb. 6, 2023, a magnitude 7.8 earthquake occurred in southern Turkey near the northern border of Syria. This quake was followed approximately nine hours later by a magnitude 7.5 earthquake located around 59 miles (95 kilometers) to the southwest.

The first earthquake was the most devastating to hit earthquake-prone Turkey in more than 20 years and was as strong as one in 1939, the most powerful recorded there. It was centered near Gaziantep in south-central Turkey, home to thousands of Syrian refugees and the many humanitarian aid organizations also based there.



The number of victims was estimated at about 52,000 dead and 10,000 wounded, most of them in Turkey. media reports indicated that the number of Syrian deaths reached about 6,000 people.


The earthquake also destroyed and damaged hundreds of thousands of buildings.




March


March 8th

Seven dead in Syria drone strike on arms factory: monitor

"Seven people were killed and 15 wounded in a drone strike targeting a weapons factory and a truck loaded with weapons," both belonging to Iran-backed groups, said Rami Abdel Rahman, who heads the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.


Three pro-Iranian fighters from Afghanistan, three Syrian civilians and one unidentified Syrian were killed, Abdel Rahman told AFP, adding that the building targeted was only recently converted into an arms factory.

-On the 30th of March, Milad Heydari, an Iranian IRGC (Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps) adviser was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Damascus.



April


As for April 2023, it consisted of many clashes between Assad regime forces, NDF (National Defense Forces), SDF and Liwa al_Quds in the north eastern region of the country.


407 were killed, While the civilian losses reached 210 persons, including 21 children under the age of 18 and nine women over the age of 18  making it the deadliest month since January 2022.




May


On 7 May,one day before the Arab League agreed to re-admit Syria into the league, Jordanian warplanes launched its first ever airstrikes against targets linked to the Assad Regime, on a house in the village of Shuab, as-Suwayda. The airstrike targeted a well known drug dealer by the name of Merhi Ramthan.




May 8th 

The rapprochement occurred amid a diplomatic push by the Assad regime  to normalize relations with regional governments that began in February 2023.


Assad attended the Arab League summit in Saudi Arabia on May 19.

June


Civilian death toll: 124 persons, including 23 children under the age of 18 and 16 women over the age of 18.


They were killed due to infighting, indiscriminate gunfire, in Assad regime prisons and under foreign airstrikes.


July


Civilian death toll: 133 persons, including 34 children under the age of 18 and 13 women over the age of 18


August


17th of August,the start of a general strike in As_Suwayda with protesters chanting anti-government slogans, such as "Long live Syria and down with Bashar al-Assad!", carrying the Syrian Revolution flag.

Aug 23th, Israeli warplanes reportedly targeted Damascus killing two IRGC members





Aug 28th , Israel struck Nairab military airbase and put nearby Aleppo International Airport out of action in the early hours.



On 29 August 2023, protests and civil disobedience continued with Ba'ath government offices being shut down in As-Suwayda.



Aug 31th  

Between 27 and 31 August, at least 45 people, including 25 tribesmen, 11 SDF members, 5 civilians and 4 unknown people were killed in clashes between Arab tribes and SDF members following increased tensions in the Deir ez-Zor countryside.


This comes after SDF forces arrested Rashid Abu Khawla, the head of the Deir ez-Zor Military Council. Fighting continued into early September, during which the death toll doubled. Today the region remains tense with skirmishes still flaring up on occasion.

August carried the highest death toll over the pt 19 months, counting a death toll of 440 people.

September


September 10, two Assad regime forces were killed and 6 other injured by an Israeli airstrike on Syrian air defense system in Tartus province.

October


Oct 5th, a “drone attack” by unknown, targeted Syrian regime military graduation ceremony at the Homs military academy, killing more than 100 people, 14 civilians included.


As a retaliation, Assad regime forces backed by Russian warplanes started a barbaric campaign of bombardment, targeting civilian neighborhoods in Idlib province and Aleppo west countryside towns, that is ongoing to the date of writing this report (DEC.26.2023), Including bombarding civilian areas using Napalm ammunition at times.

December

2 Hezbollah fighters and 2 Syrian workers were killed in a series of Israeli airstrikes around Damascus


December 15, Israeli air raid on Damascus resulted in the killing of Reza Mousavi, the commander of the IRG. He was responsible for the logistical and financial operations of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard in Syria. and considered the most senior commander to be killed after Soleimani.
